How do I get the soles of my espadrilles to stay intact?

I just recently bought two new pairs of espadrilles, but I never knew how to keep the soles from collapsing. My old pair seems so beaten up, because of the soles (which doesn't stop me from wearing them). I just wanted to know if anyone knew any good ways to keep the rope and soles from coming apart? Thank you.
